Master Plan

In celebration of Dartmouth's 250th anniversary, Dartmouth College began a comprehensive strategic master planning effort designed to chart a roadmap of the College's vision over the next 20 years and beyond.

The strategic master plan is an important opportunity to ensure that the design of the campus continues to support the College's mission and goals. Building on a legacy of thoughtful campus planning, this new master plan provides a framework for sustainable development and preservation within the main campus including buildings, landscape, open spaces, and infrastructure; local area real estate; the Moosilauke campus; and the Second College Grant.

Development of this plan presents a significant opportunity to ensure that the campus design and space provision continue to support evolving needs of Dartmouth College as a global institution.

2020 Planning for Possibilities: A Strategic Campus Framework

ABOUT THE MASTER PLAN

The strategic master plan captured Dartmouth's unique sense of place and identity and expressed the campus community's shared vision for its future, including how the physical design of the campus serves the college's mission and academic objectives.

The master plan is both a process and a product. The process can inform projects and initiatives already in progress, and create a broader perspective and forum for ongoing decision-making, community input, communications, and implementation. The product is a flexible roadmap that Dartmouth will continuously refer to for its sustainable development and preservation of the campus.

The strategic master plan:

  • Is a process to engage the campus community.
  • Develops a common language with which to discuss opportunities.
  • Creates a catalogue of options.
  • Provides a flexible framework to evaluate options and align short- and long-term physical planning.
