Proof of Employment
Dartmouth uses The Work Number®, a secure service provided by Equifax — a free, secure, 24/7 service available to all current and former Dartmouth employees.
Common uses include mortgage applications, apartment leases, loan approvals, and background checks.
How It Works
In most cases, you don't need to use this service. When you sign a loan or rental application, your consent is collected right there, and the lender or agency can verify your information directly. You're all set.
In rare cases, a verifier may ask you for a Salary Key — a one-time, six-digit code that gives them access to your income information. If that happens, you can generate one through The Work Number employee portal.
First time? Create an account.
All users — new and returning — must create an account at employees.theworknumber.com to access the portal.
Once logged in, you can:
- Generate a Salary Key for a verifier who requests one
- Download an Employment Letter, Employment & Income Letter, or Immigration Letter for your personal records
- Review your Employment Data Report to see what information is on file
Important: Letters you generate yourself are for personal use only. They are not accepted by lenders, mortgage companies, or credit agencies. If an organization needs to verify your employment, direct them to theworknumber.com — they can look you up directly.
