5. What is the difference between behavioral health coaching and therapy?
Behavioral coaching and behavioral therapy are both valuable tools for improving mental and emotional wellbeing, but they serve different purposes. Coaching is ideal for individuals who are functioning well and want to make positive changes in their behavior or lifestyle. Therapy is more appropriate for those experiencing emotional distress, mental health conditions, or unresolved issues that interfere with daily life. Learn more.
If you need therapy, please reach out to our Faculty/Employee Assistance Program, or access counseling through Cigna by visiting mycigna.com > Find Care & Costs > Counseling
6. Is there still a telephonic health coaching option available through Cigna?
Yes, if you are enrolled in a Dartmouth medical plan through Cigna, call 855-246-1873, or the number on the back of your ID card and ask to speak with the Personal Health Team. They can help with weight management, stress management, or tobacco cessation. This is separate from the in-person/virtual appointments offered by our on-campus Behavioral Health Coach, Carolyn.
