Emotional well-being is being aware of and accepting of your feelings and being able to manage your emotions in a constructive and supportive way, and having the tools and resources needed to navigate life's challenges.

Faculty/Employee Assistance Program (F/EAP)

Your Dartmouth Faculty/Employee Assistance Program, in partnership with ComPsych GuidanceResources, gives employees and your household members confidential support, resources and information for personal and work-life issues. These services are provided at no charge to you.

Headspace

The Headspace app is science-backed meditation. Mindfulness has been shown to help people stress less, increase focus, and sleep more soundly. Meditation helps you to be more mindful – and Headspace is your personal guide, with thousands of meditations and exercises for sleep, focus, and movement. Headspace is offered at no cost to all students, staff, and faculty (faculty must be paid by Dartmouth).

Cigna

For those enrolled in a Cigna medical plan through Dartmouth, you have access to a variety of in-network therapists, psychiatrists, and behavioral health coaches.

App-Based Virtual Options:

Access over 10 app-based virtual therapy, psychiatry, and coaching services, including options for children and adolescents. Be connected with a coach in seconds and have an appointment with a therapist within a couple of days, depending on the offering. 

Some of the resources available include:

  • MDLive - offers care for behavioral/mental health care. Watch this short video to learn more. MDLive provides access 24/7/365. Connect with quality licensed counselors and psychiatrists anywhere via video or phone for non-emergency conditions such as anxiety, depression, stress, relationship issues, and more.
  • TalkSpace - connect with a licensed behavioral therapist via text, video and voice. With Talkspace, you can select from thousands of licensed therapists and maintain an ongoing relationship throughout the entire treatment.
  • Headspace Care - on-demand coaching available 24/7
  • Alma - Alma connects you with a diverse national network of therapists and psychiatrists who fit your budget, schedule, and needs.
  • Bend - combines coaching, therapy, and psychiatry with an evidence-based, skill-building care plan that empowers families to feel better today, and thrive tomorrow. Available for kids and teens age 1 - 17.
  • Brightside - personalized anxiety and depression care from the comfort of home with evidence-based therapy, medication, and the support of expert providers at every step
  • Equip- provides virtual eating disorder care through Family-Based Treatment at home for lasting recovery
  • Ria Health - confidential evidence-based telehealth alcohol treatment program
  • and more!

 

Free Apps:

  • iPrevail App - Learn how to boost your mood and improve mental health with on-demand coaching 24/7. After completing a brief assessment, you receive a program tailored to your needs that includes interactive lessons and tools. You get access to a peer coach who is matched based on your symptoms. You can also join support communities focused on stress, anxiety, depression and more. 
  • Happify App - Everyday stressors can impact your relationships, work, health and emotional well-being. But you can change your outlook – and the way you see the world – with Happify. Happify’s science-based activities and games are designed to help you manage stress and build resilience, and can be accessed 24/7. 


Cigna's Employee Assistance Program (EAP):

Included in your Cigna medical plan, is Cigna's EAP network--you can receive three EAP sessions per year at no out of pocket cost. Please note: Cigna's EAP network is completely separate from Dartmouth's Faculty/Employee Assistance Program network and does not provide the same benefits. 

  • To access Cigna's EAP benefits, you need to provide your counselor with an authorization code from myCigna.com before your first appointment -- mycigna.com > Coverage > Employee Assistance Program > Visit an EAP Therapist > Get an EAP Code (or Find an In-network Counselor)

Mental Health Exception Benefit

To improve access to mental health care for Dartmouth employees and their families enrolled in a Cigna medical plan, Dartmouth offers some additional out-of-network relief.

Mindfulness & Meditation Groups

Hosted in collaboration with the Tucker Center, there are two groups for staff and faculty.

  • Monday Morning Meditation: Mondays 8 - 8:45 AM (Rollins Chapel)
  • The Mindfulness Practice Group for faculty and staff: Wednesdays 8 - 9 AM (virtual)

Yoga, Movement & Mindfulness

Access free live and recorded yoga, movement, and mindfulness sessions. Plus, the Student Wellness Center offers ongoing mindfulness sessions, drop-ins, and classes--most are open to staff and faculty!

The Wellness at Dartmouth office offers free live and pre-recorded webinars covering a variety of topics to help support your emotional well-being. 

Tucker Center for Spiritual and Ethical Life

The Tucker Center provides pastoral counseling, free mindfulness sessions, and provides access to a walking labyrinth as well as prayer and meditation rooms.

Dartmouth Ombuds

Ombuds listen and help identify concerns, navigate issues, illuminate pathways, problem solve, and address conflict. They help untangle the often-complicated terrain of decision making toward satisfactory resolution for any matter that impacts your Dartmouth experience. The Ombuds operates as an off-the-record, non-judgmental place where visitors are treated with dignity and respect.

Mindful May

Annually in May, during Mental Health Action Month, we collaborate with the Student Wellness Center to offer a month-long series of events, activities, programs, and resources to support the mental health of our entire community.
